“Varney the Vampire or the Feast of Blood” was a serial novel, published one chapter a week in 1845 by James Malcolm Rymer.  It is one of a genre of novel called “penny dreadfuls” because they cost a penny, and either because of the taudry subject matter or the terrible writing, were considered “dreadful”.

This webcomic is my attempt at a graphic retelling of the story, updated weekly.  I try not to read ahead, reading the next chapter on the week of the post.

Though I will be selective about the text I choose to include, or the scenes I choose to illustrate, I will endeavor to keep the text as close to the original author’s as possible, and to follow the storyline as faithfully as I am able.

Let’s take this strange journey together and see where it may lead…
